Gameface I’ve done some reading about some of her policies that I’ve generally skimmed over in the past. She’s in the same camp as Bernie, I think they both care more about middle America or the 99% than most pols. Bernie’s passion is unmatched, which does come across a but as crazy, but if one simply takes a a step back from the political nature of the issue - he’s (nor she) not crazy at all.
And frankly they don’t get enough credit for being way way WAY ahead of the curve on this 1% issue. The disconnect for many people with those two is they are both part of the 1%.
If a guy like Newsom can take the WH Warren or Bernie need to be part of the policy making team that gets assembled to help balance this country out.

You’re 100% correct here, for the record. I’m only pointing this here post out in particular because I was one of the very few, for years there, that would dare to claim Bernie wasn’t some crazy commie. He’s a gd American treasure and has helped shape progressive policies that actually help the regular American for DECADES. It’s very vindicating to see posts like this, not in a “I was right” sort of way, but in a way that gives me hope that people can change.

But most of our political issues aren’t about politics at all, they’re about rights, decency and sustainability.

Anyway, I see “politics” in much the same way. My brother for instance is right leaning but hardly MAGA. He’s very religious, I am not. I don’t believe he voted for Trump but he does vote for most other republicans. He also bought into the propaganda that Bernie is this crazy mad scientist ultra liberal commie.

When in reality, his actions are closer to what his Jesus teaches then just about any other prominent american politician. I asked him repeatedly to try to explain this to me like I’m 5 - you make Christianity such a huge part of your life, but then throw your political support behind grifters and people that refuse to pass any legislation that ever helps people - while demonizing one of the few politicians that is actually not out for himself primarily.

That’s when I realized this isn’t really politics, it’s just basic human decency. And you’re either on the right or wrong side of that at this point, my brother included. If you aren’t going to form your opinions on who to vote for based on your who wants to help people, who is actually a decent human, and actually mirrors what you claim to believe in with his actions - but rather instead you form your opinions of whom to vote for based off of the propaganda you consume, then your opinions on anything political become null and void to me.

Holy run on sentence.. but I’m leaving it.

jshark6 this hasn’t always been my perspective. It’s my evolutionary process right now- which may or may not be complete.

Seeing the same old issues being bashed out. Seeing the same old results with mostly the same old problem regardless of the “political” topic. Seeing people I know raised similar to me with mostly similar spiritual/religious beliefs as me being OK with how the Rs have not only behaved the past 10-15 years but what they currently propose- has made me take a big step back and reassess a LOT of things.

From my views on fringe issues to my views on financial issues and wealth distribution to my thoughts on immigration and basic freedoms.

I would have probably labeled myself an independent/fiscal conservative hybrid at one point. Until I realized a fiscal conservative label is a cop out and an excuse. It’s a position of retreat. A weak position, in which a conservative won’t acknowledge the positive attributes of the left but want to distance themselves from the abhorrent nature and actions of the right. If you have to distance yourself from the party you support you’re not only doing it wrong you’ve already lost.

We can’t continue to run deficits like we have been.

I still call myself a fiscal conservative but unlike many, I don’t believe that we can balance our budget by simply cutting govt. Taxes need to be raised as well.

Interest payments now exceeds defense spending and it’s only getting worse with our continued deficit spending and rising interest rates. Interest payments are only topped by Medicare and Soc Sec in our budget.

I think that it has gotten so bad that we will need inflation to help dig us out of the hole we’ve dug ourselves into.

Maybe fiscal realist or fiscal responsible is a better term for me. 🤷
