Working at Grand River Morton Salt in the mine under Lake Erie and topside was a close second place favorite job.

Kronus I’m taking a tour of that salt mine soon. I know someone that has access, I don’t believe they’ve done any public tours down there in a very long time.

Wow, that is cool.

1/2 mile below the Lake. The human transport cage used to take two minutes to get down there. 70 degrees temperature once in the mine that went miles laterally.

They took apart and then reassembled the earthmovers that are used to carry the salt to the larger and faster salt elevator to the surface. When swing shift ended at midnight they placed the dynamite charges to blast the salt seams after everyone was up and out.

When I was there it was a Teamster Union workforce. I was making $4.19 an hour when most of my friends were getting less than two dollars.

That is a terrific opportunity You have, I hope You enjoy it.

My father was a 20 year old man when he landed on Normandy beach on June 6, 1944. He didn’t talk much about his experiences in The War. He’s been gone for a while now. I wish I could talk to him today.
