Obama still has popularity, then there's Bernie, Kamala, Biden, AOC, Walz, Mayor Pete and Liz Warren. I wish we could move some of the smart and fiery voices like Bernie, AOC, Jasmine Crockett, the Gov of Illinois to the front, Unite and amplify the alarm with a cohesive message, but it just seems like a lot of lip service in the Capital building that doesn't accomplish much of anything. Start talking to the people instead of each other. Stop playing nice and pull out the stops instead of being doormat middle of the roaders.

Dems should be doiing some equivalent of those disgusting CPAC sideshows and calling out the GOP in a unified and strident way.

RE: shut down, put me in the camp of - I don’t think the Ds caved I think what they did was sneaky smart. They forced a vote and now Rs are on record for wanting to take peoples HC away and/or make it more expensive for the sake of making the 1% more 1 percentee.

The democrats were never going to get agreement of the subsidies, so just shut the govt down indefinitely? They needed to shut it down - otherwise they are seen as wanting to end the subsidies as well. I think that they should have waited at least until Thanksgiving for the real pressure to hit with holiday travel, but I still never saw/see a situation where Republicans agreed to extend the subsidies.

The people on this board pay attention to this stuff in much greater detail than Joe public. My parents didn’t even realize that my wife and I weren’t being paid. Shutting it down brings more of these issues to light to those types of people.

Edit: The part that most don’t understand is just how many people continue to work and not get paid. You had people calling in sick so that they could uber/Doordash to make money to pay bills. There was at least one ATC that committed suicide. These people keep things running so that Rand Paul can say things like, “Government’s still running fine without all of these people so maybe we should make this permanent” when he knows exactly how it works.

I guess I’m the lone dissenter in regards to the Democrats giving in. But once people get back to work and start getting paid this will all be in the rear view mirror. It may have brought things to the forefront but people have short memories. With the holidays coming there will be something new on the horizon to take it’s place.
Now, come January when those huge insurance premiums become reality and the talk of another shutdown looms we will be back to where we started.
The Republicans have said no deal on the subsidies and Medicare cuts. That is not going to change. So what happens then?

ocala come January with the holidays behind us. The cruelty of today’s Republican Party will be in full force if there’s another shutdown. They won’t budge and will blame Dems for everything.
I’ll guess the peeved off MAGA Republicans will want their cut this time. The ones who didn’t get the 500 grand they snuck in this last time will want paid.

I just hope that the Fed workers don’t get screwed yet again. They’ve had a tough year with DOGE and the shutdown.

They are not evil people regardless of the propaganda to the contrary.
